American bakeries range from wholesale operations that supply restaurants to neighborhood shops that sell bread, pastries, cookies and cakes over the counter, and many of them also pour coffee. Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Ice cream parlors, gelato shops and frozen yogurt bars are seasonal in the northern states and year-round in the South and on the West Coast. Prices are posted per item, by the dozen or by the pound, and most shops now take cards and mobile payment.

Chicago is in Illinois, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. Getting around Chicago is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Illinois's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Do not pass up the chance to visit Goldn. The staff are extremely friendly, the coffee and matcha are fresh, and the food is fantastic. Mini croissants melt in your mouth and compliment the coffee perfectly. I was also SO impressed by the hospitality of the owners. I requested a basque cheesecake (before it was even available) for my husband’s birthday and they were kind enough to make one for us! It was hands down THE BEST cheesecake we’ve ever had. Everyone we shared it with agreed. Will definitely be back for more! Thanks Goldn!

LOVE THIS PLACE! The mini croissants are so amazing - so unique and can’t find something like these anywhere else. Loved our coffee, too! Super welcoming & great spot.

I was happy to see this place open up. It is a nice addition to the neighborhood and a good option if you want coffee without dealing with some of the bigger, busier coffee shops. The prices are actually reasonable, which was a pleasant surprise. In an area where coffee can get expensive fast, it is nice to find a place that still feels like a good value. I also tried the croissants, and they were solid. Nothing over the top, just a good pastry to go with your coffee. It is a little off the beaten path, which I actually like because it has a more relaxed feel. If you are looking to try a new local coffee spot, this one is definitely worth checking out.

As a longtime West Loop resident and business owner, I’m always excited to welcome a new neighborhood gem, and Goldn Bakes is exactly that. The owner has brought an entrepreneurial vision inspired by his upbringing in Bilbao, blending authentic Spanish influences with French baking techniques to create exceptional croissants, pastries, and other baked goods. The attention to quality—from the butter to the craftsmanship—is evident in every bite. Over the past few visits, I’ve enjoyed exploring much of the menu, including all of their signature drinks, several lunch sandwiches, and, of course, the croissants. Everything I’ve tried has been thoughtfully prepared and consistently delicious. What makes Goldn Bakes especially exciting is that it adds something truly distinctive to the West Loop dining scene. As our neighborhood continues to grow, locally owned businesses with a unique culinary perspective help make the community even more vibrant. I sincerely hope Goldn Bakes continues to thrive. It’s a wonderful addition to the West Loop, and I look forward to watching it become a neighborhood favorite for years to come.

Delicious mini croissants, fast service, and beautiful spot. The croissants remind me of the Pillsbury crescent rolls but have a more decadent flavor, especially with the dips. My favorites were the dark chocolate and the biscoff. Will be back :)
